I know that rock stars do drugs.. we all know it, but is it okay in this day and age to openly admit such life choices to your fans in a very casual way?

Here Lady Gaga admits that her friends are STONED and are urging her to take the beef bourguignon she was making out early. Now some may find it more shocking that she was cooking a beef bourguignon than doing drugs...

My question.. is it "cool" for celebs to admit drug use by themselves and close friends with the current cultural climate?

So i have been thinking about this. A friends nephew passed away very young and they used quotes from him MYSPACE (this was pre-facebook) in his memorial. The myspace was then just lost/locked down because no one had a right to it. His parents had no way of letting people know on his myspace that he had passed away.

So this is my question. Can you bequethe your facebook access/ownership to someone or designate someone to manage your facebook for you once you have passed on. Being that facebook is becoming people's living biography... wouldn't it make sense to have the story completed or deleted based on the wishes of the person who created it?

So is there an app for this? What are the rules? Do you think it is something we really need to think about?

Why: This is another post card sender that allows you to do higher end cards, like Christmas Cards using your phone photos for 1.99 each. Very personalized one on one cards. I love when digital begats real.

Why: People's attention spans have gone from 60 seconds to 15 these days, so this is a great way to share moments in your life with friends or the general public. It takes 15 second videos and plays them in a story stream. So if you start someone's tout at the beginning, you can see their life in 15 second moments and sort of get a digest of theme in a very visual way.

Hipstamatic turns your phone camera into an old timey instamatic like the one you had if you were born prior to the 90's. This spin off of that app allows you to share a "virtual roll" of film with another user and neither of you can see the pictures till you shoot the roll and develop it. It is a great way to shoot a vacation or event and then share the pictures later and get that unexpected thrill you used to get when you had to wait to see the photos.

I did all my holiday shopping online!

So I can honestly say that I did not buy a single gift that wasn't purchased online.

I thought about the black friday sale lines, the pushing and shoving and name calling... and decided perhaps amazon.com was a safer bet.

Everyday a new box arrives on the door step and I take it in... open it (it's kinda like getting gifts myself, in a way...) I look it over and think about the person I am giving it to and how i hope they will love it - then I wrap it and top it with ribbons or some cut out snow flake I made and place it with the others in the music room to wait for C-day or Hannukah depending... I don't have a tree and don't usually get one, but I always listen to the Charlie Brown Christmas Album... i don't know why, but it is the absolute most calming thing in the world...

Online shopping is a commitment though. You need to read reviews. Look at lots of photos. Compare shipping costs (amazon prime is great for serious shoppers) and take into account the time it will take to arrive.

I have to admit that my fave shops are amazon.com (they should pay me for the number of times I say that) but i do love them.. they make everything easy and Wine Country Gift Baskets (.com) - a few of my friends and family got lovely treat towers and Hannukah treats that I sent out using that vendor. They have a great presentation, timely delivery and yummy treats!!!

I can't believe that I am DONE with my holiday shopping and it isn't even the 15th! I am so stoked. Yay for the internet.

I am also using Sincerely Ink (an iphone app) to do holiday cards. The shame of it is that I realize how few friends physical addresses I actually have handy anywhere...

Now to think about travel arrangements.. UGH...

What is Google + good for?

So I have been playing with Google+ for a few months and I have been added to over 3000 people's circles. I probably know about 20 of them.

At first I treated G+ like facebook. I added my friends (hardly any of them wanted to start using it though) then tried just updating with status updates and such. Not much interaction and most of my friends were still on facebook and preferred to stay there.

Next I treated it like Twitter. I started adding everyone and letting everyone add me. I didn't care if I knew them or not and the more the merrier. I started updating with links, images, stories, reblogs, animated gifs and anything I found interesting and though others would. This gained me tons of "followers" or "circles" and lots of re-shares.. especially for the animated gifs, but yet.. it was some how empty.. the conversations were short and went no where.

Then I tried treating it like a reader, stumble upon or dig it. I circled people based on topics and started reading feeds when I had time. Photogs, Screenwriters, Bloggers, Marketers, Social Media Gurus, Celebs.. that worked okay.. but it wasn't really anything more satisfying that google reader really..

NOW, I use it to share photos and video with specific groups.. and I LOVE it for this...of all the purposes I have used it for, this is the most functional and unique. You can create an album and upload a mix of photos, gifs and video together without worrying about format and then share that with a circle of people. I use my FAMILY circle for this A LOT. My Mom and a couple of others who aren't even on G+ get the updates via email and can view the albums and videos with no issues and without having to sign up. I love that the videos are uploaded with youtube controls, but they aren't linked into my youtube account. So I dont have to worry about family videos being shared publicly.\

I think G+ is great for all of the above uses, depending on your need, it can fit them all, but I am finding that I love it most as a bulk sharing tool.

Social Media Snobs

As I explore the possibilities of the new media I am amazed by its potential. I’ve tweeted over 10,000 tweetsin the past year and have over 5,000 twitter followers .. which has been a blast. Twitter is like Breaking News on crack. If you are on twitter, or checking twitter the moment something important happens in the world, you are instantly aware – no need to wait till the evening news, or till you get a coffee break and check cnn.com. That is, if you are following the right people, in many parts of the world, who are well connected and like to RT (Re-Tweet) useful news and information… but in the midst of using the tool to my purpose (connection, news, film groups, events) I happen to have lost many of my real life friends and co-workers (not LOST as in we never speak.. LOST as in they choose NOT to follow me on twitter because I “tweet too much”.) Go Figure! LOL

Most of them seem to hold the belief that the media was mainly meant to convey the kind of daily prattle you might text to a small group of buddies now and then. “Going to be at Townie Bar tonight, who wants to come by and meet me?” , “Hoodies are on sale at the Old Navy on Main Street..” – that sort of thing. To be honest, I am rather exclusive when it comes to letting people know where I am and inviting people to join me out or keep tabs on me and though I play with the GPS apps on my iphone alot, I am pretty sure that I don’t want to be the story that will be on the news soon about the chick who tweeted all her where abouts and was stalked and killed by a follower… That having been said, I do play Foursquare, a game where you check in everywhere you go and earn badges or become the Mayor of said places.. but I always check in after I have already left the location, as a stalker prevention method. So back to these Twitter Snobs.. I wonder… Are there sets of people using twitter completely differently.. and is there a right way and a wrong way, as they propose? I, of course, like everyone else am annoyed by the spammers who DM you about getting more followers or buying some herbal drink from Trump Enterprises.. LOL.. but I doubt those tweeple are real people anyway…

A friend recently commented that my making a facebook fan page for myself made him feel like facebook was turning into MySpace.. of course this friend is a kid just out of college and we all know that they remember the days when facebook was simply a “we went or are going to the same school” dating service… (come on, you know its true). The founder has been very smart in realizing the tool allows for business connections to be made in a non-invasive manner and the powerful matrix allows content to rise quickly from obscurity to super fame in under a day through “sharing”.Think about Susan Boyles.. right now some sort of Metal Rooster is trending on popular videos.. it really is a marketing tool, whether you like it or not.. anytime over a billion consumers GIVE someone their data willingly, the founder would be a fool not to use that information to his best advantage. So sorry facebook snobs, but the media is too big NOT to be a marketing machine at this point.. it just wouldn’t make sense..

On the side of keeping in exclusive, I created my fan page because my friends page is shared mainly with people I have met in person and at 197 of those, I am still rather careful. I know there are others who have thousands of “friends” on their facebooks and you know that they simply add anyone and everyone… but you won’t find me snobbing on them.. they are using it to their purpose and not mine.

As for MySpace.. I think it’s main failing was in the lack of ease of use. Alot of people criticized it for a lot of other reasons, but it simply was not easy to use, add to and it was hardly mashable, even now, if you have a wordpress or other blog system, you are hard pressed to get your myspace to integrate.. where as twitter and facebook to a degree are mashable in a hundred ways with ease..

How to Market a Screenplay

Are you ready to sell your screenplay?

If you have gotten tons of feedback via local groups, acting collaborations to have your script read aloud (good local groups can be found or made at Meetups.com

Perfect the scripts to your absolute BEST. I love Save the Cat, by Blake Snyder – its is great.. there are tons of books you can read on the topic and of course you should read tons of screenplays, lots are available for free at: Script-O-Rama! and SimplyScripts (sometimes these are post shooting scripts, but it still helps to see how others handle communicating actions etc.)

I have a list of screenwriting software here: List of Screenwriting Software and i use movie magic screenwriter but have used Final Draft as well. Format is a big deal for readers, so make sure you are up on all that stuff.

Ummm… so, when you are ready to roll.. I would work out a killer log line – here is an article on that, but SAVE THE CAT has the best formula i have heard for it yet.. LogLines for Screenplay and you can buy Save the Cat here!

This will be your first impression (never send an entire script, unless it has been asked for.. it is a waste of your money and time – start with a query letter).

OKAY! Now you are ready to spend some cash! Get a subscription to Hollywood Creative Directory Online as well as Internet Movie Database Pro and use those to create a data base of people you will mail to.. I like to seek out Development Execs and people involved in producing films similar to the script i am trying to sell on IMDBpro and then look their information up in HCDonline.com and send to them specifically. but there are lots of ways to use the information those two sources give you.

Make sure to follow any requirements listed. Whether you are sending to a producer, dev exec, agent or other. Some people send queries even when “no unsolicited material” is accepted.. its your money.. sometimes you get lucky, so you can make that call.

Most of all, if you get ANY feedback in a rejection notice outside of the usual form letter, CHERISH it.. i always stress that, because they took the time to give you something valuable.. their opinion on what you can do to improve your chances and an opening to send a follow up thanking them and perhaps even re-sending the script back after the changes have been made.

Food Trucks Have Gone Gourmet in L.A. and We Love It!

So is LA the only place that this is totally like a THING or are these big in your home town?

If you live anywhere in Los Angeles, you have no doubt eaten off a “Taco Truck” in the past for a quick lunch or a late night grab after clubbing or working late, but chances are before 2010, you didn’t follow your Taco Truck on Twitter, Track who was eating there on Foursquare or FAN it on Facebook. With the invention of these new tools and the resurgence of Street Food Integrity, Food Trucks are making a huge comeback and lines are around the block!

As a kid I remember seeing the trucks parked in the neighborhood, silver or white usually with a name hand painted across the sides. They were usually surrounded by Men mostly; ordering food, eating. laughing, standing around. When I entered the work-force, the trucks were a lunchtime inevitability, people joked about grabbing a burrito or taco off the “Roach Coach” which left an indellible image in my mind that I needed to overcome to enjoy the new level of Street Food available now. This is not your Father’s Food Truck.

Follow That Truck!

With the invention and more importantly BOOM of Twitter, Street Food is now stalked down! A truck can park in Venice Beach, tweet/facebook it’s location and wait for the lines to begin. People from Downtown, Pasadena, Culver City even Long Beach will actually drive to find it after work, as a dinner treat! They will wait in a huge line with the threat of the food running out before they get to the window just to eat a magnificent GRILLED CHEESE! This is what happens every day for the Grilled Cheese Truck that boasts gourmet Melty Goodness. Their website outlines their menu and features a lot of “cheesey” graphics! and of course gives a schedule of where you can find them. The Grilled Cheese Truck was the first of these new animals to catch my attention, mainly because I am a Grilled Cheese fanatic, but also because I saw it mentioned more than a few times on Twitter by people who are definitely NOT your classic “food truck” eaters. I decided, I must find this truck and taste the Cheese!

A short Google session later I was amazed to find more than 40 such Gourmet Trucks including, The Buttermilk Truck, The Kobi Truck, The Flying Pig, Taco Zone Truck, and more… and as I was bookmarking and adding to my Twitter Follows, I found findlafoodtrucks.com and realized... THIS IS A WHOLE NEW BREED OF STREET FOOD VENDORS, something is happening here! Making the most of the new Social Media tools and the Foodie Fusion Crowd as well as Los Angeles’ love for being in on something exclusive that you have to wait in a huge line for… these Rolling Gourmets have opened up a line of business that their parents never dreamed possible for their service.

A Social Phenomenon?

People who follow the Food Trucks use the opportunity to socialize with others in line and meet people they normally wouldn’t have a chance or reason to talk to. They use the trucks as a central meeting point with friends from different cities, so they can Eat and then move to other plans for the evening and some people bring folding chairs and sort of tail gate around trucks that have stationary locations like the Tacos trucks in Downtown who are always located in the Alameda/Traction parking lot. Where is the party at? Just follow a food truck!

In an economy where companies are contracting and people are watching every penny, these small businesses have found a way to “sell out” their product on a regular basis and leave their audience begging for more! Much of the Social Media Advertising is bogus and annoying, intrusive and flat, but for these Small Business Owners, it has been a perfect fit and wisely used. BRAVO!

If you are thinking of starting a Gourmet Food Truck, now is the time, but make sure you are Social Media Saavy and offer something either in the Comfort Food arena, Ethnic Goodness or a Fusion that make mouths water. So far I haven’t run across a CUPCAKE truck! So maybe that is an idea! A lot of my readers are out of state, so perhaps starting your own Food Truck Movement in town would be a fun idea!

Okay... so I have been ignoring the whole "40" thing because it's a couple of years away... but a lot of my friends are hitting that mark this year and I am starting to wonder if it means anything... I should explain that I am not on a normal path of any kind.. so age markers tend to throw me for a loop.

1) I am not really interested in getting married.. i love men.. i mean, they are great.. and i like dating and mostly i like getting dressed up and going out.. but the thought of having to worry about someone else, care what they think, consult them about spending money or going somewhere, worrying about their health and the fear of losing them or just having to get their buy-in on some crazy choice like moving across the country on a whim... stresses me out! I have tried to become interested in it as a "goal" because I know I am supposed to... in some way, the world seems to promote it as validation... and when i was reaallllly young i was very interested in it and came pretty close.. but i viewed it as some sort of glamorous life upgrade. Looking back, i now see that a husband was an accessory in my young mind... like the right handbag.. so i am glad that whole thing didn't work out... because a handbag can be put on a shelf when you don't need it.

2) I am not interested in having kids... I have a niece and a nephew... and I feel like i have kids.. they are part of my soul... and i love them like they are my own.. yet, i recognize the selfishness that is part of my whole "solo act" when i see how much my sister gives of herself to raise little ones. -And me... i need to be able to go away and write or go away and sit and stare at the ocean.. or go away and just be alone... it's selfish.. it's not MoMish... and I don't want to give that up... so.. no kids...

3) I love working... but i am not a careerist.. In fact where i am as a Marketing Director for an awesome company has nothing to do with where I started out or what I wanted to do or planned or even what I was or wasn't educated for. It is the result of moving on instincts, whims.. talking to lots of people and always being like "YEA OK.. LETS DO IT!" and of course providence, which i believe in.. If you looked at my life as an infographic I think it would look a lot like a splatter... with very few connecting paths or dots.. I write screenplays, I studied film-making gorilla style, i educated myself in many ways through simply being open to any opportunity, i have a natural eye for style and design.. and i like people... and it has all lead me here.. but where am I and where does this go? I have no idea and i don't want to know... i don't have a plan and 40 says.. you are supposed to have a plan!

4) I don't have stuff... I get rid of stuff.... So this is a weird thing, but I don't really have STUFF... every time I move, i sort of re-build and take very little with me.. the stuff i have, i can easily get rid of and have no attachment to.. when it comes to stuff i am very non-sentimental.. When I left Charlotte and moved back home to Los Angeles, I traded all my furniture to a guy who painted and did repairs on my house there.. so basically anything that didn't fit in my car along side my pets,my screenplays, computers... shoes and clothes.. got left behind, or given away... I took a ton of clothes to Dress For Success (a charity that gives women interview clothes when they cannot afford them) and some stuff still had tags on it, but it didn't fit... so I gave it away... I am always fascinated by people who have knick-knacks.. they seem so arbitrary and yet they sort of make a person's home.. a home.. i dont have any knick-knacks.. there is a scene in Breakfast at Tiffany's when Paul asks Holly if she just moved in (because her apartment is bare and sparse) and she says that she has been there about a year that reminds me of myself.. I honestly tried in Charlotte to become a "stuff" person and it just didn't work... i even bought a house.. which was probably not for me.. the way i move around.. but i wanted to give it a go (i mean, people do that sort of thing and it's normally a great thing to do).

So anyway... ramble ramble... when i see other friends hitting the 40 and they are in the expected position for that life marker.. I wonder why i am not and if it matters.

I've visited almost every state in the US.. traveled to many countries... eaten the finest food the world has to offer... met every kind of person, from royalty to starving actor... and at this point i wonder if i should start trying to live in the pattern... or just keep being me and see what happens..

My life anthem has always been "Non Regrette Rien" as sung by Edith Piaf... but as 40 approaches, i wonder... will i regret living on the fringe?
